How To Maintain
Maintaining your FMD is simple. When it gets dirty simply wash it with soap and water. It’s recommended you use a soap without a moisturizer, such as dish soap, to maximize the silicone grip. If the nylon string starts to fray, simply replace it with a new string. Finally, do not leave the FMD in direct sunlight as UV radiation will cause the PLA plastic tugging anchor to weaken.
Even though the FMD has good strength, its most susceptible to ripping at end of the sheath, which is the weakest point. Keep the FMD away from anything sharp, like zipper teeth. Also avoid compressing the silicone against any edges, like finger nails or the tension clip. Once a nick occurs a rip can rapidly occur when circumferentially stretched. Thus it’s important to always avoid excessive circumferential stretching when applying, removing, or inverting the sheath. Instead roll the sheath up and down to the greatest extent possible. Frequently inspect the weak point for any nicks or rips. If one is found it’s recommended to cut off that portion of the sheath with sharp scissors to arrest any damage.
